Whew...after one really long day, I am finally here! YAY! What can I say about the trip so far? Um...8 hour flights aren't great, but they aren't as bad as I thought they would be. I guess I have a bit of a skewed perspective though because I had an empty seat next to me on the flight from Amsterdam to Entebbe. Needless to say, I vegged out! The flight attendants from Holland were AWESOME! I think they saw a skinny American and took it upon themselves to "fatten" me up. :-) About every 45 minutest to an hour I would wake up...and there was always food sitting there (one time it was ice cream!).
It was dark when I arrived...but I did witness quite a bit. There are people EVERYWHERE on the streets! I am not really sure what time it is (or day for that matter)...but I think it is about midnite. I found it odd that people were out at this time...it looked like the Vegas strip (for those who have been). The driver told me an interesting tidbit that helps to explain it. He said that people don't "live" in their houses here. They use their houses to sleep...and if they aren't sleeping, they are out doing something. Traffic is awesome! If you watch it on youtube, you might think the place is nuts...but it really isn't (don't get me wrong, try to drive here and you will not make it far without freaking out). I haven't seen road signs/lights/signals/etc...but the drivers here actually communicate MUCH more than we do in America. Lots of light flashing and use of turn signals to let others know where they are, when they can or cannot pass, or when they can or cannot turn. Driving on the left side of the road doesn't seem so bad (but shifting a stick with the left hand looks like it would take some time to get used to).
The hotel I am in tonight is BEAUTIFUL! Flowers, banana trees, and what appears to be a view to die for of the city! I will have some AMAZING pictures by tomorrow!
With that said, I am not sure how much/if I will be able to upload anything of size. The internet (while they do have it here) is SLOW! Think back to the days of dial-up. I will try though at some point (maybe tomorrow evening here (I think that is morning there...still trying to figure it out). :-)
The lights keep flickering...so I better try to send this while I still can.
More to come later!
